Default Seeking info

I'm currently looking at buying an audi tt and honestly I've never dealt with european cars before. So far the only ones that are in my price range are in the 70-90k mile range. Are the TTs known to be problematic with higher mileage or anything to that sort? How reliable are the 1.8t engines? How easily are they servicable? I'm looking for a weekend driver, not intending on modifying, well not yet. And of course I know the guidelines when looking at used cars, but are there any quick indications to the TT that would tell me to stay away?

Thanks in advance,
nwm

The reliability of the car at high mileage is great, as long as the service schedule was performed up to par. There are quite a few TTs on here with high mileage (mine is at 96k.)

Servicing isn't difficult if you're mechanically inclined. If not, prepare to spend a good amount of money at the dealer and a little less than that at an independent shop.

The 2 largest flaws in the older TTs are the timing belt failures and the cluster going bad. The timing belt isn't a problem if you're on top of it and have it changed every 60k miles. The cluster is annoying because you'll lose lines in the display and your gauges will start working improperly.
