Default so my check engine light came on....

ya i just got my car inspected two days ago, and today as im driving to work my damn check engine light comes on. I know everyone says to use a vagcom but i don't know what it is or how to use it. Im gonna take it into the shop tomorrow to see if they can run a diagnostic and find out what it is. Any advice from the vets here would help me out a great deal.

diagnostic test is almost if not over $100. Taking it to autozone is free. Get the codes and post them. If nothing is running wrong, just unplug the battery for 10mins to clear the codes and see if they come back then get it scanned.

My check engine light seems to have a mind of its own. Meanwhile the car always seems to be running fine. From the amount of posts on the subject this seems to be an ongoing problem for a lot of Audi owners. Can all these cars have these problems causing the CEL to come on with more frequency than most other cars? Is there a sensitivity to these issues which cause the light to come on at the slightest hint of a problem? It's a pain to see that light on again. Resetting it via the battery also makes the radio think someone is trying to steal it, and it too then needs to be reset. Who would want to steal this radio? I diagnose the CEL, and do most of the work on my TT myself, however it makes me wonder about all the income generated dealer service departments from this annoying little light.

It will most likely be off when you turn the car back on. The secret is to keep it off. Chances are you'll also need to reset your radio.

well i reconnected it and drove with it all day today. The radio acted wacky for about 5 mins and i let the car idle for ten mins after disconnection. The light has not come back on and im guessing so far so good. I will be investing in a vagcom though. Point me in the right direction in order to get one lol. If not ill do some searching when i get back from working out.
