Temp gauge question
Hey guys, Just joined the forum and have a few questions.
Is it normal for the temp gauge to rise over half sometimes? I brought it in to the dealer twice for this and they told me this is normal. The gauge works perfectly my only concern is when i let the car idle for a few minutes the gauge will go over the half point but not to the end and as soon as i start driving it will go right back at half. Or sometimes its at half and i shut off the car, if i start it again 5-10 mins later it will be over the half point, and a few seconds later slowly go back to half. The audi mechanic told me this is normal because when i shut off the car the heat rises to the sensor.
I doubt this is normal my a4 1.8t never did this.
Ive read that the tt's are know for bad clusters but the dealer told me all the gauges are within spec.
BTW The car has a new water pump and temp sensor.

Im no Audi tech but I wouldnt worry mine does it to. If i leave it at idle it will slowly go up 1 bar on the gauge then back down even when its hot and i shut if off then turn it on again in 5 min the gauge is high.
Mine never does or did and I just had a bad cluster temp gauge replaced. I would check your coolant sensor (make sure it's green or whatever). Another note: the temp gauge is NOT linear. One degree can move the gauge an entire notch.
