Timing belt lawsuit question
A week ago i posted about my tt timing belt breaking at 77,000 miles. I have completed the repairs and ended up having to service the head and replace most of the valves. I have noticed postings about a class action lawsuit against audi because the manual says to change the timing belt at 120,000 miles and now as i have learned it breaks much sooner than that. Does anyone have any information about how i can get compensated for my costs from audi? I would appreciate any any information, i am having a hard time finding out anything helpful on the web. Thanks!
goodluck! They reccomend changing it at 60,000 not 120,000 if you had it replaced at 60,000 then maybe the shop that did the replacement you might have a case against them but other than that no you will loose for sure!
^actually its the bentley manual that says 60K.
my audi car manual says 120K.
i heard newer manuals are "revised" to reflect 80K? not sure about that though.
either way it sucks that you had to pay for that repair, but unfortunately you are one of many people who have gone through this.
i doubt you could go up against the big lawyers audi has, but you never know. it may be worth at least talking to a lawyer and see what he says.
post back with results if you can make something happen!
i got mine done @ 60K per the bentley and per these forums....
best of luck...

my audi car manual says 60k (im talkin manual) not betley i have a true 2001 TT 225 Quattro but my manual is from a 2004 tt idk y it came with 04 manual but...i just found it last weekend it was under the spare tire dont know why it was there either weird mine stretched at 99k i got lucky it didnt brake!
Mine is a 2001 tt quatro turbo both the car manual and the bentley manual that i purchased say to change the belt at 120,000 miles. I did think this was odd, i called the dealer and they said maybye look into it at 90,000. Either way it broke and Audi is cupable. I have read many postings about a lawsuit brought against Audi and some people getting part of their expenses back. I will let you know what happens, and i hope that i too recieve some compensation.
Thanks.
Thanks.
The issue I have is the large discrepancy in suggested replacement mileage.
My Audi Maintenance Manual suggests replacement at 105,000 miles. Bentley schedule is 80,000. However they recommend periodic inspection of the belt and related parts. I'm certain that the average Audi owner doesn't have a Bentley, and relys on the Maintenance Manual at best.
Whatever number you choose, there is a 25,000 mile difference. That's a lot of room for error for such a catistophic and expensive failure. I would hate to think that Audi wants the belt to fail to generate additional Service Department income.

I just did my belt last weekend. What a pain in the a$$ that was. I bought my 2000 tt 180hp quattro with 84,000 miles. I didn't want to go too long with the belt that was in there, not knowing if it was stock or had been replaced. When we got in there we saw that the belt had been replaced, however it still had the plasticwater pump impella.I changed mine at 101,500, and I already plan or changing it again in 50-60,000 miles.
this is great - its mostly a younger crowd buying these now, as they get older, so im guessing we're probably going to see more cheap / free mods for these things. lol.
You'll spend much more with a lawyer than you spent on the repair. I would suggest writing a letter to AoA and give them the full story. There have been postings by several other owners on different forums that were successful in this route in at least getting part of the repair paid for by Audi.
