have you seen these problems before?
Hey guys I'm brand new to the forums. I'm looking for a TT and the one I test drove today was a 225hp one but there are a few problems with it. FIrst of all, the tach as well as the display screen in the center of the guages do not work at all. The speedometer and odometer still work though. Has anyone else had this problem and if sohow much was the fix? ANother problem is that the top goes down no problem but it does not go back up when the button is pushed, you have to manually lift it (which is not as easy as I had thought until I tried it). Once again, has anyone else had this problem and how much was the fix? The dealer said the top worked when they first got it but stopped working soon after. And the final thing is that the lock for the glove box is missing and has to be done by Audi. The car I looked at was at Luxury Imports of Orlando so they can not do the lock themselves. Does anyone know how much that would cost roughly? Thanks guys, I'm hoping to get in to a 225 TT so if any of you are selling one in FL then PM me. I have a Mazda 3 that I turboed if you are looking to trade for something with more space and still just as fast. Thanks in advance for your advice. BTW, the car was a 2001 manual 225 roadster with 42,000 miles listed at $15,900. It's black with the orange looking interior with baseball stitching.

The gauges are not working because the cluster is bad, That will cost $1000 to replace.
A new glove box will run you about $600. You can't just replace the lock.
The top sounds like the lift motor is failed or the mechanism that operates it. I have no idea the cost of that but I would be willing to bet it isn't going to be cheap.
Red is right... try to find another car. That one needs a couple thousand dollars worth of repairs and who knows how much more that you can't see.

not for nothing but that dealer should SOLVE those problems before offering that car for sale.
i wouldnt buy that thing unless they lowered the price to like 12000. that way with the money you saved you could fix it yourself.
if i was you i wouldnt be so anxious. yes, the TT is an awesome car and i can understand wanting to get one right away, but wait for the right deal. keep checking autotrader.
i waited almost a full year driving my GTI longer than i ever wanted to, just to find the right deal on the one i got.
good luck!! =)

Thanks guys I'm going to walk away from that one. I am going to look at one in Sarasota tomorrow though. I'm going to go ahead and wait until I get what I want for my car and then get another car. I still love mine so I don't mind driving it for even another year like you did if that's what it comes to. And btw, when I test drove the one in Orlando with the problems I asked how long it had been there and they said 6 months so I figured there was a reason it hadn't sold lol.
