Why does the parcel shelf on my TT rattle so much?

Does anyone have a quick fix aside from removing the unit?

I think he means the parcel shelf that covers the trunk opening behind the back seat. It's a common problem on TTs. One fix is to separate the shelf into top and bottom sections and silicone the support rods in between then reassemble.
