If you never get to operating temp, yes its a bad thing. There was just a large discussion about this on vortex. The stock plate is more than enough for 98% of the normal street driven cars and those that live in extremely hot climates can benefit from going to a larger stock cooler that will help tame the oil temps in 95-110* heat.

Ok, oil cooler with thermostatic plate. Operating temp problem solved. But if you're talking about needing a FMIC due to a chip, which undoubtedly leads to other modding, maybe the idea isn't so far fetched anymore.

A larger filter to hold more oil will be more than enough for most people here if they worry about oil temps. The stock ic's arent able to cool the extra volume of air and higher temps, im sure having 20*C+ lower iat's and able to add about 1* of timing increase is well worth the upgrade. Not sure what other modding is involved
