Tell me, what happens to the cluster center display?
does the top part (cd/radio info)just become blank?
the trip computer/thermometer/... still work right?

I didnt even know we had a top part.
I got my car with a pioneer headunit, I always wondered why others had a trip display.lol.

The trip, odometer, etc will all work as usual. If your headlight goes out, if your out of gas, if you are out of wiper fluid, etc...that all still works too. It just wont show the radio station in the top portion.
