Turbo gasket Leak???
I just pulled out my 01 TT quattro for the beautiful weather in wisconsin and after a short drive without engaging the turbo too much, I noticed that there was a little smoke coming out if a hose. I'm not sure if its the turbo or not. The smoke isn't really in large amounts, but is definitely noticeable with smell and you can see it with close observation.
Its coming out of the heat shielding around on the hoses near the back topside of the engine. I"m assuming its one of the hoses leading into theturbo.
My first guess was a turbo gasket leak but the turbo has not lost any psi. I'm now thinking its a valve cover gasket leak.
Any ideas?

If you drive it more and it continues, then i would start to worry. Could of been oil that pooled in the intake when it sat and the heat from the turbo just burned it off.
check if there are any wires / hoses that have come loose and "fell" or rather drooped down touching the manifold or something.
They may be burning up or melting.
I had the wire-loom around my boost gauge hose touching my TIP/Heatshield and it melted.
