Default turbo misting

so what would happen if you sprayed the turbo with a light water jet? ok i know it sounds off the wall, but the turbos performance is directly related to heat. we use FMIC to cool the air to the engine, but i want to bring down the temps on the turbo itself. the principle is this. the heat transfers to the water in phases. is not the water cooling off the turbo its the reaction of converting water into steam that cools it off. so if we could spray a small ammount of water onto the cold side of the turbo to get it to steam a little it would cool it off. this would have to be controlled to not spray everywhere especially the hot side and he manifold, as that could cause cracks. also the spray cant be too big because sudden cooling will also ruin the parts. Can this work? tubo heat is an issue for every turbo car, but even more so for smaller turbos pushed to the limits. a common way to cool it is water injection, but i havent gone there yet, since i dont know 100%how themechanics work. anyone have a good link to specified explanations on water injection process, and tuning?

your turbo is already water cooled and that keeps the chra cooler, which is the important part. if you want to cool the turbo, some air ducts would be much better and cost effective. you could take air from the front and route it to the turbo. either way you will not really prolong the life much longer.

water injection:
It gives 2 benifiets, reduce knock and lower iat's. The closer to the tb the more knock prevention and less cooling and the further away, vise versa. Many either run it in the middle or use two nozzles, one close and one by the ic. With water injection, its like 100+ octane gas. you can increase timing and/or boost to increase performance. people with just adding water/meth have seen increase in timing by 5-7* by doing noting more than installing the kit. after that you can increase timing until you pull more than you added oruntil you reach the max level before your ecu starts pulling out more.

Another benifit is that the water cleans the combustion chamber and also the water vapors increase the density of the intake charge.

Those are pretty much the basics

http://www.snowperformance.net/

There's several different ways to control the injection, I'm going to go with the boost activated coming on at 4 psi and increasing the amount all the way up to about 19 psi

you control flow by using differnt size nozzles. usrt, usrallyteam.com has a downloadable program on the site for nozzle sizes.
