A pair of needle-nosed pliers work very well for this. I just (gently) pulled each fin out.
I could reassemble the vent if need be. The only other thing I had to do was cut a little of the actual air duct.
This way the vac hose will fit without being bent.

 

where did you guys wire the power/ground, etc?

 

There is a bolt for a ground just under the steering wheel panel and i taped into the power supply to the fuse box.

 

i'm gonna go with a mounting cup

i'll probably mount the cup on the dash. like so:

 

ive got mine mounted above the vent on the top of the dash to the left of the cluster

Just dont do it like this...now i think it was like this when he (formulanerd) got it
