You have to put one in. There is a bolt on the top side of the motor opposite of the filter that is a perfect place for it. You can see it in the center of this shot (the brass fitting for an oil temp sender in this case):

You can put a "T" there as well, for both temp and pressure.

^^ Great spot. I believe they also make an adapter that attaches to your oil filter bracket.

I installed my oil pressure gauge from my oil filter plate. Requires a brass Tee, 10x1 metric threads. VDO makes one, you can find them on most vw webstores. Also requires an adapter to go from the 10x1 to NPT threads for the compression fittings or electronic sender, whether you go mechanical or electric gauge. Total bitch to get to, might as well get a new intake mani gasket, because you'll want it off and out of the way. Oil line to turbo gets in the way of removing the stock sender (which will be screwed back into the tee fitting), that oil line has a banjo fitting, might as well get new crush washers for that too. I now have a very light drip from not replacing the washers. The stock sender is around a 25mm hex.

Actually, you could probably get away with leaving the turbo oil line in place if you have a deep socket. I think i actually ended up using a 1 1/16" open end, since I didn't have a socket, or a metric open end that would fit.

Added arrow where the stock sender is. Shiny stainless line is the turbo oil line i was talking about.
