01 A4 Engine Swap to 2.7T
So I have read a few threads on here bashing people who want to put an S4 engine in their A4. I have tried to sell my A4 to no avail because I'd like an S4. However, I have put too much money into my car to just start over on a new one.
So, my question is can mount an S4 engine on my 1.8T transmission? Apart from the ECU, wiring, hoses, etc, is there anything else I would need?

well i'm almost certain that the 1.8t and the 2.8 have the same bellhousing mounts, just different gear ratios. and i'm almost certain that they used the same block for the 2.7t as the 2.8. The gear ratios would probably feel a little sketchy because your putting about double the power to the same gear ratios which are meant for the 1.8T.
wouldn't be surprised if the tranny couldn't take it.

I even know a S4 2.7t owner that swapped in a FWD 5 speed 1.8t transmission just for fun.
If you keep the 2.7t power stock then you will be ok. I had no problems with my 01A 5 speed while making 570whp with my built 2 liter setup.

Since when does anyone go into engine swap planning with the notion that it will or should be cheap? Occasionally it can be but if you're being real, you'll plan on considerable expense and having a big discretionary budget.

01E can be a $2k-$3k added cost to the build. Exactly why I haven't put a 01E in my car yet.

The 2,7T would certainly bolt up to the 01A 5MT. An interesting project. If your car is DBW, the S4 2,7T harness will be plug and play.
You'll need a V6 front subframe, the I4 one will work, though it'll be pretty close around the upper oil pan. You'll also need the front bar and lock carrier off an S4, or a V6 at the very least.
If you'll need to change your instrument cluster coding, otherwise your tacho will not read right (it's coded for an I4).
So yes, it's very possible, how well the conversion's done will depend on how fussy you are, and how far you're willing to go.
Good luck, whatever you decide.
