Don't know of a write-up on the relay... Porbably because it's never an issue, and likely isn't for you either. I was saying your ecm may think it's relay is bad due to the interupeted communications because of the stalling, when in fact the relay is probably ok.

This is for a 99. But same spot... Your sensor should be green or black. It's also going to be a tighter fit for your hands being an 01, but it's still doable. Make sure to wipe out any coolant gunk from inside the flange so that the O ring seals tight.

link

Make sure the old O ring comes out with the old sensor. It may stick in the coolant sensor flange.

Nah... Don't yank it out. If you can't get the clip out by hand, you won't be able to get the new one in by hand. I'm surprised you can barely see it.. Mine is in plain sight on my 00 and they are the same. If you stick a flat head down there it could help slide the clip out. Getting it back in won't be so easy. Hopefuly you got a new clip incase you break or lose the old one in the depths of the engine bay.

Some long needle nose pliars may work for taking out and putting in the clip.

The clip should just pop out with a little force. You don't need to press on it.

The clip won't come off? or the sensor won't pull out of the flange? If the clip is out then ya, use some force to pull the sensor out of the flange. Mine was gunky and the O ring was crispy. Sort of glued itself to the flange.
