Default 1.8T oil change

O.k. So I've done 2 oil changes since I got the car and do everything underneath. I figured out that when taking off the filter, oil runs off of that one bolt that sticks out (you probably know which one), so I always position the oil catch bucket right below it to eliminate a mess on the floor.

I had a thought about taking off the filter from the top and seeing if I had a small container that would fit right under the filter to catch all the oil and eliminate having to clean up where it gets all over on the motor. Does anyone do this? I went to audidiy.com to see how it was done there, but I can't see it, it just says "404 not found".

Remove the three screws holding the coolant overflow tank and roll it out of the way.
This gives you good access to the filter from above.

I guess my real question is, does the oil spill straight down, or does it trickle down the side of the motor? It's kind of hard to see when you're down there. I just get ready to move out of the way lol.

O.k., so I'll probably just do it from the top next time and leave the bucket where I always have it. It'll eliminate getting a bunch of dirty oil on my arm at least. As for the light, check out audidiy.com. It should be on there.

I hang my coolant tank from the hood using a bunge cord.

When I remove the filter I just place something under it so that any oil that does drip off runs down it and into the oil catch pan.

That's a good idea about the bungee cord. I don't get what you mean about putting something under it. You mean something that acts like a slide for the oil to slide down directly to the oil catch pan? I guess I'll pay close attention next time on how it falls out, when I do it up top.

Yeah so it just runs down that and into the bucket laying under the car, kind of like a large funnel that has been cut open on one side.

i place an old rag right under the filter and it catches most of the drip.
