Default 1.8t without engine...

Hi fellas, just wanting some opinions on what to do with my car/problem. I have an A4 B5 1.8t quattro. About 2 years ago I (idiotically) overfilled it with oil - and it died. Engine was wrecked. I tried to source a new unit for it over the next couple of months, but my money situation defeated me. For about 2 years it has been sitting outside my house gathering dust/snow. I live near Glasgow, Scotland, so the winters have been fairly biting.

When I had it fully looked over after the engine died, every other area was in A+ condition (gearbox, clutch, interior etc). The reason for this was I purchased it off of my friends aging mother, who bought the quattro model without realising, so I couldn't believe my luck!

Can anyone give any estimations to how much they think it might be worth? Or whether I should scrap it, sell it or trade it into a business like copart - for example.

Thanks in advance, hope I was not too vague.

You don't say how many km on the odometer, year etc. But my guess is that if this was across town from me, I'd give you $1,000 USD for it, buy a used motor for $1,000-1,500, and end up with a $3,500 car. But again, without knowing the year, odometer and other stuff (I saw clutch, must be a manual trans) it's pretty hard to say.

yeah some pics would be helpful, but id personally put a motor in it. if you are not capable of doing the labor yourself, i would try to sell it. it wont bring much for scrap price, maybe $300 usd without a motor in it and if you find the correct person they would be willing to fix it up and pay you what it is worth. if the condition is as good as you say it is, youcould get up to $2000 for it

How much can you get an engine for? I'm talking about a sued motor though, no point in getting a new/rebuilt one. If it's not too much then it's definitely worth it to swap the motor and sell it. I'm assuming it's pretty low mileage so you can probably sell it for quite a bit with a good motor and cleaned up. Theoretically, If I bought that car from you and dropped $500 on a motor I'd be able to sell it for at least 3 times what I paid in total if it's mint like you say.

Alright chaps,

Yea sorry for the lack of info with my 1st post. It's got about 96,000k on the clock, but it has been fairly easy going miles for the most part. I've sourced a couple of engines in the £600-£700 range excluding labour and priced all the other smaller jobs like fluid changes/good service etc, at face value Im probably looking at just over £1400 or so. As a side note, I actually phoned up copart and a scrapyard too and they quoted me £100 and £150. A reach-around better be included in those prices.

I'm actually more nervous about other componants like gearbox, clutch, brakes etc that might give me a complete financial headache when I'm a percentage into the project. Might be worth a gamble though...
