Default 10W-30 Synthetic Question for 2.8

Because I use Mobile 1 10W-30 for my other cars I bought it for my 99 2.8 without thinking. It has 107k miles and was probably using a 5 weight synthetic from the service guys before. Should this make a difference and how about for a high milage car?

I use 0W-40 full synthetic but I think a 10W-30 might be ok

it shouldnt make a noticeable difference, its certainly not going to kill your car, i think 5-30 or 5-40 is recomended, ive been using 0-40 cause i live up here in cold-as-a-bitch new england and i have a 1.8t. i usualy switch over to a 5-40 for the summer months though. since you dont have a turbo you dont especialy need the 40 grade for the more extreme temps.

" Mobil 1 0W-40 provides the widest range of protection -- providing the extreme cold start protection of an 0W grade and the high temperature protection of an SAE 40 grade." -from the mobil1 site

I have a 2.8. My manual says 10w-30 is okay for temperature ranges between 0-55 degrees F.

Thanks for the input.. My other cars are actually high-performance turbo cars which tend to run a bit hotter. Given that its summer and some people say its recommended and others say it should be fine, I will let it run till my next oil change.

you'll be fine. if it was winter and you were in really cold *** weather, it might pose a problem, but thats it. i run 10w-40 all year round (florida)

So for someone who lives in Utah where temps can get as low as -7F or lower in the winter and start pushing 103F or better in the summer, what would you all recommend for a 98 2.8 manual trans that has 137k miles? I've been considering making the switch to the royal purple cuz lots of folks around town have said that it makes alot of difference in high mileage cars and has a good temperature range for Utah's erratic weather patterns (and by erratic, I mean crazy changes in short periods of time, just this past may we had it up to 89F one particular monday, and by wednesday that same week we had about 6 inches of snow...) so any suggestions?

people are liars if they say they can notice a tangible difference between different types of oil they put in their cars. royal purple isnt bad and many people swear by it, however i only use mobil1 0-40.

if you need the temp protection, especially if you have a turbo, use 0w40. it holds its viscosity over a very wide temp range and flows nice in extreme cold wether.
