Default synthetic oil grade question?

My car is an 05' 1.8T FWD and current at 70k miles. What synthetic motor oil grade do you guys recommend? 5w30 or 5w40 or something else and why?

thanks

5w-30 cause the manual said so... they say the car comes with 0w-30 but that's not needed unless you're living in really cold climates. 5w-30 is great for all year use. i think mobil 1 is supposed to be a bit thinner so some people would take the 40 weight.

What about 0w-40? A few guys are running that and was wondering why such a low weight?

Like ThreePointOhhh said, it really depends on the climate that you're in. I'm in Florida and have always run 5w-40 without any issues.

yea you dont need to worry about 0w-40 unless you live in alaska or the arctic
ive been running mobil 1 for a while and then swithed over to royal purple 5-30 and the motor runs much smoother and easier.

The weight is going to effect the oil pressure and how the turbo spools up. A lighter oil like 0w-30 is going to allow the turbo to spool up much quicker but the oil pressure will be lower since the oil flows much easier.

If you really push the car hard all the time or live in very hot conditions you want to run a 40 weight.
