I bought 2001 A8L and a 1998 A8 and am going to do my first service on them and would like to know if anyone recommends a good oil to use. I bought a case of Hengst and Mahle filters for the cars, could you tell me if these are good filters.

 

Yeah mahle filters are on par with oem. Most people recommend a synthetic like Mobile 1.

 

I use Mobil 1 in my Z, don't know what brand is in the audi yet, only 1000 miles on her.......if they allow me to bring in my own oil I will probably stick w/ the mobil 1 for the audi too.........although I am curious about the royal purple, anyone here use it???

Thanks for the advice, I put the Mobile 1 in both cars. I noticed a significant difference in the 98's response, that was a nice surprise. I didn't see a difference in the 01 though. I wasn't expecting one on either, just looking to take the best care I can.
