im sorry if this is a stupid quesiton, but what is the difference between the 2.8l with 12 valves vs the 30 valve ones? (besides the obvious answer that it has more valves)

 

The 2.8L 12 valve has 2 valves per cylinder and the 2.8L 30 valve has 5 valves per cylinder. LOL!

 

172hp vs 190 (or 193, I forget which). The 30v has more smog control too such as tge secondary air pump. There are probably a hundred differences that add up to that, in terms of architecture, parts, and parts location. The sum of it all is that in the 30v engine, Audi created a higher-tech engine that is significantly smoother than the 12v and kept their driveline credentials in league with BMW and other competitors at the time.

 

Thankyou imthedevil. That's the answer I was looking for. And yes for the record I do know that there would b a different # of valves per cylinder lol I'm not stupid
