1998 Audi A4 Clicking Noise
Just had new tyres fitted as old ones were very ropey. Since they've been put on two days ago, got a clicking noise whenever I corner and accelerate. Took it back to the tyre company who adjusted the tracking and wights on the alloys. I whizzed round the car park and the noise seemd worse. I went back and they said - It's your driveshaft, it's broken and the oil's leaked out. I know nothing about the mechanics, so does this sound right? how come it wan't happening before the new tyres went on? cheers
That is a bad CV joint. When they go bad, they click when you turn.
"they said - It's your driveshaft, it's broken and the oil's leaked out."
What they mean here is that rubber boot covering your constant velocity joint has ruptured and all the grease has come out, letting the joint run dry and burn up. A constant velocity (CV) joint allows the wheel to turn left or right while still rotating. It is part of the axle.
