Default 1998 Audi A4 Quattro 2.8 sedan HELP NO START

Engine cranks but won't start.
History: timing belt tensioner bolt failed, timing belt frayed. So,
....I replaced engine with an 01 Passat engine. Virtually the same. I replaced all sensors that had variance like coolant temp sensor and the oil pressure sensor since the newer engine didn't have that.
Got all put back together.
The only thing of any significance is the throttle cable got jarred a bit on removal. But it seems ok.
A few times when cranking the display would say "push in clutch to start car" but this is an AUTOMATIC!
So what's that all about.
Otherwise I'm getting fuel. But not getting spark.
I replaced crank angle sensor on bell housing. Engine ran great in its Passat before this. I used all the Audi parts that were on the Audi when it was running.
What could I be missing?
Would could cause the no spark?

Definitely some sort of computer issue. In replacing the engine, theyre very close to the same but certainly not 100% so they're something missing there.
You might have to get the Passat ECU or get some sort of coding done on your old Audi one.
Do you have Vag-Com?
