Default 2.8L to TDI

Well last week I found out my car skipped timing from the idler pulley failing. The valves are bent and the dealership estimates around 3k to fix and I have no time right now to fix the car since I am graduating in May.

I don't have a job yet so I don't want to go out and buy a new car and have a payment that I can't afford if I can't get a job. I thought about an engine swap thinking it maybe a little cheaper than fixing the engine.

I checked out some threads and found out that a TDI engine will mount right up to my tranny but didn't find out to much on the engine mounts.

Will I have to fab up some new engine mounts for this new motor? I know I need a new ECU and wiring harness but will I need to replace anything else?

I know a few guys where debatin about doing it and if you peak in here can you post up the work if you did do it?

Thanks!

Are you thinking a TDI motor from a Jetta or something?

I have no idea on how the swap would go, but it sounds awesome. Although from what I've seen the tdi jetta motors are more expensive compared to getting a 1.8t motor. But don't quote me on that.

I did find one after some searching but not enough info to justify the swap yet. I need to find out what I need to do for motor mounts. One of them will work if you buy a mount for a different engine but the other you have to make yourself. I can do the rest because it will just bolt right up to my trans. This is a project for next summer. I need to do research first. Buy everything I need then FINALLY do the swap. I may not but if it can be done for a few grand not including the price of the engine I would like to do it.

i want do do the same thing, but with jettas and what not being FWD are the engines longitudinal? or horizontal? if they were longitudinal they would work with a quattro tranny, correct?
