Default 2001 A4 1.8T Engine Replacement

Hello,

My neighbor needs to replace his 1.8T engine in his A4. As a fun project, we were thinking of doing the work ourselves. Is there anything that is not straight forward in replacing the engine with a rebuild. I guess, my main concern is the electronic system. Will it automatically set the tuning specifications to the new engine installed?

Thanks JR

If all the sensors are the same and it is also a 06A engine then you guys will be fine.

Since this has been brought up about rebuilds, anyone know if/where we can get a crate engine?! I've looked and never came up with anything! Just wondering if any of you knew of something...

Assuming you've already checked with Audi, it may be tough to get one. That engine was replaced with the 2.0T awhile back and they'll only continue to make yours for so long. I'd bet 034 or Mike can sell you a built short block though, all ready for high boost - that'd be the route to go

Then sell your A4 and buy a B5 S4.

Not what I want it for but I was thinking about trying to find a totaled S4 that got rear ended or something...
