2001 Audi 2.8
Quick question went out looking at some audi's today. We went into a dealer and the owner said that the Audi 2.8 came with a Timing chain so therefore it did not need to be changed. He stated only 1.8t a4's had belts. Just wondering if its true? Is a timing Chain common in 2001 A4's? Are they reliable? Should it be changed in the 75k -100k mile range? Car has 114k miles body looks good interior is also nice minus the pixel fading in the dash. Any Information helps. Thanks..

The 2.8 has a belt for sure. I would see why the 1.8 would be any different.
According to the service manual, it should be changed at 100k miles.
I just had mine done at 90k. It's well worth it to have other work done as well since you will be in there.
tensioners
pulleys
water pump
thermostat
other belts
To have shop do all this work, (depending on where you live), you're looking at $1400 on up.
