2001 Audi A4 Quattro Auto shifting quirk
I have a 2001 Audi A4 Quattro with a tiptronic automatic transmission. I have notice that every once in a while the car will either refuse to shift to 5th gear automatically (causing it to rev up near 4,000 RPM before a last second hard shift is set off) or will downshift from 5th while going 50+ MPH. To me, this seems like a computer issue. What do you think?
I have a 2000 a4 1.8t and i had a similar problem when i was on the highway and in 5th gear and still in tiptronic, i set the cruise control and it was fine for about 5 minutes then it like ****** down to 3rd going like 65 mph?
Did you fix it? It is very annoying, luckly itgoesto fourth when going freeway speeds and not third like your Audi did. It has to be a computer issue, but I am not sure.
Sometimes my Tip seems to wait on upshifts too. One of the deciding factors on the shift is the throttle angle and the engine load as calculated by the ECM.
It is supposed to be an adaptive transmission, changing the shift schedule according to how aggressive you are with the gas pedal, but mine errs on the side of performance and prefers to keep the engine out of a low rpm high load condition.
