'96 2.8 to 2.7T Build
#11
Actually from my own reading, the 4.2 would be better weight-wise than the 2.7T. The 2.7T is essentially the 30v V6 built for boost. With turbo parts, it's a decent amount heavier than the NA V6, which (at least in 30v form) is itself about 30lbs heavier than the 4.2, due to the V6's iron block. The 4.2 is an aluminum block and the weight savings are for real.

Don't take it as misdirected confidence. Take it as someone who has read this thread 10 times before from different members who end up either calling it quits or never post back to prove everyone wrong. I seriously hope that you can pull it off. I want you to succeed, I just have my doubts and with good reason. Keep us updated.
The supercharger part- I don't think anyone here has ever aspired for this... Which makes me all the more doubtful, yet just as much hopeful at the same time.

I guess since you and the Devil are both moderators you've seen it all .
I'll give you a little background about me. When I was 13 I worked on my first car, which was my best friends '87 325is that his father gave to him. Two years later we finished the complete restoration with a built & turbocharged m20b25. I have been involved in several performance builds, mostly e30's and Ford 302/351's. I am a 4x4 enthusiast but decided to give Audi a shot. So far so good! By day I'm half college student and half network administrator (CCNP, MCSA). If you guys have questions don't be afraid to ask.

Not in the least, I'm sure. I am talking about people who declare their mission here , and then we never hear back or find their parts list in the classifieds. Like I said, keep us updated

Well here's an update!
The dipshit who had the car before me stripped the drain and fill plugs on the rear diff. I was going to continue to drive and maintain the car as normal while the work to the 2.7 is being done. Looks like im going to have to drill them out. They almost look fused to the diff casing though.. I ******* hate getting seized bolts and plugs out.

It's midnight and after a long day I've got both plugs out, the stinky oil changed and the 2.7 torn down. Most of the internals have been removed from the block and I will get to the heads tomorrow. Looks like it was taken care of with no signs of damage to the cylinder walls, pistons or anything. The cross hatching looks mint. The valves are in great shape and I will probably put them in the classifieds along with the guides and everything else I will be replacing.

I guess it makes the thread a little more interesting if there are pictures. Here is the motor without turbos, accessories or anything as I purchased it.
The block is completely stripped and out for machining. No clue when it'll be back.
