Default '96 A4 with headlights problem

Hey there, I have an A4 with a headlights problem. Here's the lowdown on the situation:
I can turn on the dash lights and not the headlights, and I can flash the high beams, but not turn them on. Does anyone know how to fix this? An idea suggested to me was that it was the switch.

Yes, probably the combination switch on your steering column.

The Haynes Manual for the '96 Audi gives many warnings about disconnecting the battery cable due to the computer losing operating values. Is this a problem that's as easily fixed as this article I found on audiworld tech articles:

It's your combination switch.

100% combination switch (been through it, know many who have been through it, have replaced it on more than one car).
