'97 A4 problems....
I've had this car for almost a year now, and it has been great. Now I have two problems and I don't know for sure what either of them are... I've looked around and I think I have figured out the headlight problem. My headlights don't work, I can make my brights come on if I hold them in, and my cruise stopped. As far as I've read that is a switch I can buy and swap out myself. Anybody know the cheapest place to buy this switch?
Next problem is on my dash where it tells temp, mpg, etc... it now says brake light. I thought it was just a brake light out and I replaced that one. Now they are all on and it still says it... And a friend was following me the other day because my headlights went out and I had to hold my brights on and they said when I would hit my brakes, the only light that would get bright was the middle one inside the car, and they could barley tell it was brighter.
Any ideas on why this would be happening? Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

1st problem is your combination switch. Replace it:
The brake light bulb you used might have been a single filament and is grounding out, you need a dual filament bulb if thats the case. If thats not it then you might have a bad brake light switch, but I doubt that.

That's what I figured about the headlights... Any ideas on where to find a cheap one...? Also how do I know if it's a double or single filament...? You mean the little thread-like part inside the light would have 2 instead of one...? May sound stupid and I might have just answered my own question, but just checking...

Ebay is a good source for the switch/stalk. Also there are quite a few people parting out there cars here in the classifieds.
If your unsure of the bulb take it up to an autozone or adavanced auto and show them. They will be able to look up your bulb and help ya
