Hello everyone. Let me start by saying that I have been a mechanic for about 8 years now, mostly on American and Asian vehicles. I can take care of most things on my cars, but I have learned over the years that I should ask if I don't know. I have three problems that I need help with:
1. Starting issues. When I turn the key to crank the vehicle I get a buzzing noise from under the dash. I have narrowed it down to the neutral safety switch relay. Currently I have pulled out the relay and I'm using a jumper wire to go from one of the slots on the relay to a "hot" junction bolt just under the relay panel. This has worked for years now, but my wife is pissed and I want to get it fixed.

I'd second the ignition switch. If it starts failing you can get all kinds of screwy stuff happening. Over the last couple years, I've had the odometer display as well as ambient temp display blank out, and other seemingly random function losses that have returned. I've replaced my switch and everything is rock solid. That switch is key to power delivery for a lot of parts, and mine may even have been instrumental in the meltdowns of two headlight switches and the recent death of my fuel pump. It cost me $36 shipped and took 10 minutes to change. I'd do it.

disconnect battery. Remove airbag (T30 torx) and steering wheel (T55 torx). Take out small philips screws on underside and face of column covers, plus the Allen screw on the bottom of the column. Let the lower column cover swing down. The switch is in the end of the key cylinder opposite where the key goes in. You'll see two red glyptal dots facing you on the top and bottom of the cylinder. Scrape them off to expose small flathead set screws. Unplug the harness from the switch, then loosen those screws and it comes right out.
