98 A41.8t. apr chip. surging
So. I bought an A4 with 160000 miles. Had Apr install 1.0 bar chip yesterday evening. The car is surging and hardshifting at low rpms. can anyone give me an idea of what may be causing this problem before i take it back to Apr for diagnostics. I dont want to be charged and arm and leg for a simple fix.
Wow that's a lot of good background information to help out. Do you know how to check for vacuum/boost leaks? Getting a piston-type diverter valve like a Forge or Baileys could help and is recommended for all chipped 1.8T applications.
sounds like you are missfiring...did you change your plugs to BKR7E and gap them yo .28?
could be a mad boost issue...did you replace your stock diverter valve?...the stock one can't handle the boost
when you first get chipped, you are supposed to drive shill for a tank of gas to let the ecu get used to the tune, if you just got chipped and you are already beating on the car, something may have been thrown off
please tell me you have a boost guage, if you do, watch the boost levels through the gears, make shure that it is holding....
apr should spike at 20 and hold at 16-17 I belive...
so, it is only surgy in lower rpms?
sounds like a spark issue to me...start with your plugs, but it is most likely one of your coil packs

sounds like you are missfiring...did you change your plugs to BKR7E and gap them yo .28? stocks are fine, just need gapped
could be a mad boost issue...did you replace your stock diverter valve?...the stock one can't handle the boost it can, just dies faster
when you first get chipped, you are supposed to drive shill for a tank of gas to let the ecu get used to the tune, if you just got chipped and you are already beating on the car, something may have been thrown off not what i have been told. its was the opposite in fact
please tell me you have a boost guage, if you do, watch the boost levels through the gears, make shure that it is holding....
apr should spike at 20 and hold at 16-17 I belive... 1bar chip means 14.7psi
so, it is only surgy in lower rpms?
sounds like a spark issue to me...start with your plugs, but it is most likely one of your coil packs I would go with plugs not regapped. It could also be a diffent n75 installed. But the discription is very vague.

The TT 710n is about $45 from peformance-cafe. A nicer lifetime warrenty 007 is $130. The BKR are NGK plugs. But as said above, you just need to gap stock heat range plugs down. Your not really running enough power to warrent the heat range change.
you can get an audi TT diverter valve for $40 at your nearest dealer
and yes, the BKR7E is a plug, but cincy is the man, so it shounds like you should start regapping
sounds like cincy and I think it is a spark issue, but cincy says it could also be your N75?...definately start by regapping your plugs to .28
if regapping doesn't help then you may want to have the codes scanned for free at autozone, I am guessing, that something must have logged (especially if you have a cel)
if you post the codes here, we will actually know whats going on and we will be able to easily give you the solution...

Its hard to help with little info. The reason i said n75 is that someone could of chipped it before and left a differnt n75 i there and not all chips like all n75s. But that is the last place to go looking for answers. Free fixes first and then cheap ones.
my car also surges every so often. mostly when i back up. i havent had that problem driving though. i have a feeling mine is from the crappy tune though. when you figure out what it is let me kno im interested if i can stop my car from surging anymore.
