99 A4 - Oil Light Flashing/Beeping - Help me fix please :>
Hey all,
My audi is flashing and beeping the oil light randomly. I don't see any check engine light on.
I am trying to figure out what is wrong exactly so I can replace the appropriate part . I know it could be the pressure switch, oil pump, strainer ect ect but don't want to 'guess' and replace random parts hoping it fixes the problem- as it can get expensive.
Would a ODB2 or VAG tool show me the info I need? (Pinpointing the exact problem or part needing replaced).
Here are some things I noticed to help diagnosis:
-It seems to randomly go off but I really only notice it when I am at a stop light OR when coming to a stop (almost stopped). When I am driving it doesn't seem to go off really, maybe rarely.
-What it does is this: Beeps- flashes. Then will randomly Beep and flash again- sometimes the flash keeps going for awhile and sometimes it just goes away. Always starts with a beep tho.
- The Oil TEMP gauge does go up - which makes me thing its actually flowing..... maybe to around 160 degrees. Just a guess I am not a mechanic.
That is pretty much it.

"t is likely that your A4 has a partially blocked oil pick up strainer, this was a very common problem on early A4''s. It's an easy fix, oil pan will have to be removed and the tube/strainer replaced. Also some of them had issues with instrument clusters that would give false warnings.
I can repair your car, I have dealer level diagnostic equipment and can tell if the instrument has issues.."
as for cost" "To replace the pickup tube/strainer approximately 240.00+tax, oil pressure sender approximately 120+tax, 1year/12,000 miles warranty.
Will scan and clear all systems at no charge"
What should I do to determine what I need to fix...? Any ideas?
Thank you!!!

Assuming that the oil is at the proper level and not actually low, put half a can of Seafoam in the oil, run it 50 miles, and change the oil and filter. While you're under there, clean the connector on the pan sensor with electrical contact cleaner. If it still does it, you probably will need to change the pickup tube/screen.

OK I will look into doing this. Thanks.
For reference its is a 2.8 not the other one...
When I bought my 99 with the 2.8 it had the same issue, I just ran it with a full can of seafoam in the motor oil and all cleared up with in a week then changed the oil and gave it a third can along with Valvoline Maxlife for the next 5k and just Maxlife ever since and never had another issue over the last 30k.
