Default A4 1.8T Quattro with a few codes.

Thank you all for viewing this and for any help you give.

So I bought this car about 3 weeks ago and everything was going great. After about 2k miles being put on it i noticed there being a little hesitation between 20-40mph. So i bought a Scanner for it. Well i found that there was a few codes the first one was for the MAF so i replaced that and the ICM. Well now i am getting a P1555 error and i dont know how to fix it. The other thing i noticed is now every once in a while i get a code for the MAF. does the p1555 and the MAF have something in common. Please help i am very new to the audi world.

Thanks in advance.

1999.5 A4 1.8T Quattro 5spd.

Thats what i am thinking but looking for a good diagram of what i should be looking for. I dont want to be tracing and looking at a vacuum line that has nothing to do with the problem.

I do not remember the MAF code that i received. Before i went home from work i check all codes again and no codes showed up. So i drove it home which is about 20-30 miles. with no problems. When i got home i connected the scanner again and their was once again no codes. I really Have no idea what the car is thinking at this point. Just monitoring it on a daily.

I just want to say thanks to all who have given info on this. I will work better and getting the actual codes when they show up so i can place them on here.

So the MAF Code came back as 16487 P0103. As I stated before this is a brand new MAF Only 5 days old. I dont know why it would fail that quick.

I also would like to know if a vacuum leak can cause the MAF to foul out? If so where do i start looking for bad vacuum hoses?

Check the MAF wiring first then trace the hoses and look for cracks etc. Where did you get the MAF? Is it brand new or reman? Does it run better with the MAF unplugged or the same, worse?

I checked the MAF wiring to make sure it was plugged in but thats about it. I was told by my mechanic this morning that it was a Reman and it might be the problem. I did not unplug it to see if it ran better or not. So the car is headed to the shop right now to have my friend/owner take a look at it, he has way more diagnostic tools than i do in my little garage.

Thanks for giving me some more light on what to check.

I wanted to say thank you for all that replied to my thread. After having the car taken to the shop they found that the new MAF that I had bought was a true re manufactured part and it had failed pretty much right out of the box. They replaced with an OEM MAF and the car is running perfectly. They also found a vacuum leak around the brake booster. Now its all been fixed and I couldn't be happier.

Thanks Again for all who pointed me at what to look for.
Mike.
