A4 door
Hello every one, right my drivers side door on my 1996 A4 seems to have dropped a little, this causes a bad wind noise when driving at speed.
Does anyone know why it has dropped and if I'll be able to fix it myself,
Any help is greatly appreciated.

With the door slightly open grab the door from the botton outer edge and lift up as hard as you can a few times and that will help a little, but this is only a temporary fix. Most body shops have a special tool that does the same thing as it has a handle that goes into your doors latch and this gives them leverage to lift up on the door..
I have found on my hinges there is play in them. I'm not sure yet if you can replace the pin bushings or not like earlier GM products. I moved the striker on the door post up a bit and that helped till I find out about the bushings. With your door open grab the bottom and lift up and check for play.
My door has the exact same problem (VERY ANNOYING). I posted on Audizine and got the following response from mike-2ptzero:
I haven't had time to give it a shot yet but I plan on getting it fixed this summer.
You could do it yourself, all you have to do is loosen all the bolts that hold the door hinges to the body of the car and have someone lift the back of the door upward causing the top hinge to slide forward a little. If you are not up to doing that you could just take it to a body shop and have them do it for you.
BTW when the door is removed from the car the hinges dont have to be removed. The 2 bolts on the bottom hinge must be removed, the top hidge is in 2 pieces which comes apart by just removing a set screw on the center pin and then lifting the door striaght up. This allows the door to be removed or installed by 1 person.
