So the ac was blowing warm air and i figured i needed a recharge. When i took it to the shop they said the electrical wire to it had been severed. My question is can i re attach the wire? If not, how difficult of a job is this to do myself because parts and labor is going to cost a fortune. any advice is appreciated.

 

The wire to the clutch or to the connector on the compressor?

 

splice it just like any other wire. if it is sheared off at the connector that might be more difficult.

 

clutch i believe..i think i can splice the wire back though. is there anything i should be aware of?

 

That totally depends on where it's broken. If it's broken in the coil, you're kinda screwed. If it's done incorrectly, you might keep blowing the A/C fuse. Or, if the coil is shorted, it will keep burning out the wire and the fuse, in which case, you need a compressor anyway.

Just out of curiosity, did you check the fuse for the compressor? While you're at it, check the resistance of the compressor clutch coil.
