Sorry for being a noob, but I just bought a used 01 Audi A4 2.8 today (for a pretty sweet deal), and on my way home I was accelerating up a hill and when I hit 5000rpm, I heard a loud squeal. It seems to be coming from the driver side of the car. Do you guys know how this might happen?

I also need to get the timing belt changed too, it has 126,000 miles on it too. I'm kinda scared to drive it, I'm scared I might be breaking something. I was going to bring it to my mechanic on Saturday to get it taken a look at.

In the mean time, it would be awesome to hear from you guys and let me know what I should do. Drive it? Leave it until I get it taken a look at?

Has the previous owner ever changed the timing belt?

 

I asked her if she had ever changed the timing belt, and she said she wasn't sure. I was digging through all the service records (good thing she had them), and I saw that the timing belt was changed at around 70,000 miles. Now it has 126,000 miles on it.

I'll try to post video up if I get a chance.

 

seems to me like it has to be a belt, but which one? Probably not the timing belt since it's toothed.

 

Yeah the belt has been changed at the dealer at 70,000 and it looks pretty good.

I'll try to post a video, but is it cool to drive in the mean time? As long as i don't hit 5,000 rpm?
