An aftermarket radio question.

An aftermarket radio question.
I have recently bought an aftermarket radio and have noticed that when I take the key out of the ignition it resets the radio. Is this because the stock radio doesn't require a permanent power source? So the power gets cut off every time the ignition is turned off?
Thanks, Mo

Did you wire this up yourself? Generally radios will use a switched power source (to turn on/off with the ignition) and an always-powered source (+12V). If an adapter harness was used for the new radio, it should have both of these hooked up. It sounds like something was mis-wired.

I'm not sure about non-Bose systems but when I put in my headunit I need two or three wiring harness adapters and an antenna adapter, but I agree something is not wired correctly, check to make sure your wiring adapter is made for your car whether Bose or non.

I went down to Halfords today and they said that with some models of radio(I have a Sony dab6650) you have to switch the red and yellow live wires. After doing that it has stored all settings. So thanks to everyone that has replied but this has been resolved now.
