Default AirBag light on after multi-switch replacement ...

Is it normal for the light to come up on the dash after removing / replacing (same) airbag? Do I need Vag to reset it? What to do?

I did remove it again. Connections look good, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Was your battery connected while you did it? I hope not but if it was that would explain it. If not, try resetting it (you'll need VagCom). Scan first to be sure that's the bag that is tripping the light. Usually it's tripped by the driver seat bag from moving the seat too far back. It strains and partially opens the connector. That sets the light. If it is the bag that you replaced, and none of this is s fix, it may be ghat you have a bad bag.

I did indeed have the battery ground off and was still nervous about the thinging blowing up. I followed the Bentley suggestion of turning the ignition on and then reconnecting the neg cable for safety.
Will have to track down the vag dude in the area and see if it just needs to be replaced. Thanks.

Most people on here have talked about the driver side bag being the problem but either is conceivable - they're set up the same way and are equally susceptible.
