Default Any Maintenance I should do before starting my mods?

Hey,

So I've been looking into mods for my A4 that I will be doing this summer. So far I've decided I'll be getting a GIAC ECU with a Forge 007 DV and some sort of intake modification.

Before I get into that stuff I was wondering what things I should look into repairing?

The car has 191 000km on it and the timing belt has just been changed aswell as the wheel bearings.

The oil changes are being done regularly but I was just wondering if theres anything else I should do?

Fuel filter maybe? What comes to mind?

Thanks

Hey brother, here's a list of things I would personally do.
1. Seafoam Treatment
2. Fuel Filter (That should be done every 5 or 6 oil changes)
3. Check over all vacuum lines and replace any damaged ones. Its a good idea to
replace all of them anyway cause most of the ones that the car comes with are
garbage...
4. Check all hoses for leaks
5. Tighten any clamps that you can and ensure that the non-adjustable ones are on
there good and tight. You'd be suprised where a boost leak can come from...
6. Get some NGK Plugs and make sure they are gapped to .028 (when you get the chip)
7. Check your injectors for cleanliness
Most of this stuff is preventative maintenance. If you don't have a boost gauge or a Vag-Com, I would consider both of them as well. The boost gauge is going to give you an idea of how your car is running and is it running at where it should and the Vag-Com software will let you know all the little specifics so that you can keep your car running in tip-top shape. I'm sure I missed some things, but I'll post if anything comes to mind. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Just for peace of mind, do a compression check. Even if you have some blow-by and low cylinder pressures, if it's only moderate, you can probably still chip the car and enjoy it. Plus you'll know where you stand in the event that you decide to mod more heavily.

Look into your brakes, and think of a pad upgrade to a ceramic compound or an A8 brake setup if you have the cash (which isn't all that much). Extra Go deserves extra Whoa and the A4 is underbraked as it is, let alone after the extra power from the chip. A set of sport springs, or coilovers, and an S4 rear swaybar are nice mods too, and all of that stuff enhances the car's ability to transition between acceleration, cornering, and braking - it'll all make the car faster from A to B, and it'll be a lot more fun to drive, as well as safer.

Thanks for the info guys but I have some questions. I'm no mechanic so I'm not exactly sure how to do all those things...

1. Seafoam Treatment

I did this in my old car (Camry) but I dont remember exactly what to do, I remember sucking some of it in the vacuum line, putting some in the gas tank and putting some in the oil? Or something like that? What do you guys recommend?

2. Fuel Filter (That should be done every 5 or 6 oil changes)

Alright I checked out a guide, should be fine.

3. Check over all vacuum lines and replace any damaged ones. Its a good idea to
replace all of them anyway cause most of the ones that the car comes with are
garbage...

Where can I get these?

4. Check all hoses for leaks

How is that done? Visual inspection?

5. Tighten any clamps that you can and ensure that the non-adjustable ones are on
there good and tight. You'd be suprised where a boost leak can come from...

Ok.

6. Get some NGK Plugs and make sure they are gapped to .028 (when you get the chip)

I saw those plugs on ECStuning, any guides on how to change them?

7. Check your injectors for cleanliness

Not sure how to do this either lol.

And for compression check, do I need to go to a garage to do that or can I buy a tool to do it? Some sort of pump with a gauge I'm guessing.

As far as the brakes, suspension swaybars etc I will look into that once I know the car is well maintained and Ive got my chip in.

Thanks for the help!

1. Seafoam
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ow-To-Sea-Foam
2. Fuel Filter Replacement
http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng49.shtml
3. Vacuum Lines
Autoparts stores, Tuning shops, Ebay...
4. Check Hoses for leaks
A. Do a visual inspection for obvious tears
B. Boost leak test (This is one way)
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2739135
C. Have a smoke test done at a shop
5. You got that
6. You got that too
7. Fuel Injectors

This stuff isn't too bad. Take your time and don't rush to failure. Good luck!
