Default ASR issues with '98 2.8

The ABS, ASR, and brake light were coming on and the rotors started making grinding noises. I replaced all four rotors and pads, which included packing the rear bearings because I have Lucas brakes. Everything seemed fine but when I took it out on a test-drive, it would only let me get to about 8mph and the ASR light starts FLASHING. However the ABS and brake lights aren't coming on. If I push the ASR button, the light comes on solid and the car seems to act fine. This seems dangerous enough to check with others before attempting highway speeds. If anyone has any help or ideas, I would greatly appreciate them. Thanks.

Edit: Forgot to mention this is front-wheel drive, NOT Quattro, hence the bearings in the rear. LOL.
