Default Is Automatic ECU same as Manual ECU ?

Hi,

My engine cuts and loses all power for a short moment at random moments(no check engine). I changed all four spark plugs and it happens less often, but the problem is still there. So i'm going to change the four coils and I have a spare ECU from the same year but from an automatic quattro. My car is fwd manual, so are the two ECU's the same ?

thanks

what does your car do when it dies? i think i have a problem with my ECU just wondering if they are the same symptoms, mine will work fine one minute then the next when i floor it, it wont get past 3000 rpms have almost no power then it will just kill and need to be jumped..... had to push it a mile back home last time i drove it to the car wash

Why do you say that? The only difference should be the tcu for the automatic no?
Just pull the cover off the plastic box that its in and see if the numbers match. If so your good to go.
