Default B5 breather refresh, short hose tips please?

[I accidentally posted this in the main A4 forum, i meant to post in b5]

I'm doing a breather refresh this weekend using the ECS kit. I had a look just now and it seems like the hose on the back of the engine might be tricky.

If so, does anyone have any tips? Should anything come out that will make it easier?

Thanks!

I did this recently and replaced it with 3/4" rubber hose. It's not as bad as it looks like. Take off the flexible duct piece between the air box and the plastic elbow that goes onto the throttle body. Unbolt the plastic piece above the throttle body that has all of the solenoids on it and disconnect any vacuum lines you need to to remove it. Take off the plastic elbow that goes on the throttle body. It will only have one bolt holding it to the throttle body which is visible when looking at the driver's side of the throttle body. It will take a 5mm hex bit. That should be enough to get at it. Removing the throttle body would make it more accessible but I didn't want to take the time to remove it. The clips that hold the hose on can be a real pain but since you're replacing it with a new hose, I would just cut the ring on the plastic clip to make it easier to remove. Here's a link for removing the throttle body on a 2.8 A6. It's pretty much the same process but you don't have to remove the throttle body.

Yup, as said above, remove the air intake plumbing and the job gets significantly easier.

awesome, that just what I was wondering if I should do.

One thing I was worried about tho is, if you take off the TB do you always have to do a throttle body alignment? I have no VAG...

I'm looking at removing the throttle body because I think that if I don't that installing the new pump and checkvalue will be a major PITA.

After some further searching you're right. Some people didn't have luck doing it that way but that does seem to be one way of doing it.

Off comes the TB!

Thanks-
