Default Bad Rack what to do now?

so i figured out that it is not a power steering line that is bad but the rack itself. not coming out fast at all. takes some time before the resevour is empty. my question is where do they usually leak from and how long do i have before the rack is totally shot? has anyone had success with that power steering leak sealer or lucas products? let me know as i do not have the cash or time to fix it as of now

I can't answer your questions from experience, but since Audi has a proprietary power steering fluid, I'd be very careful about any additives you're thinking about using. You could speed up the failure of your rack. Auditech79 can tell you for sure one way or another if you're safe using any of those, and he can also probably help you with your other questions.

I waited until the leak was very bad. It takes around 6 hours
to replace the rack. I bought a remanufactured one from

www.carsteering.com

I had my rack and pinion replaced. the seal gets busted and slowly leaks out fluid until it gets worse and worse. they can't just put on a new seal, you have to get a new rack.

They just did one today at the shop on a B5 S4 it looked way hard to replace to me but I think it took him just under 4 hours. It was leaking the entire reservoir out in under an hour though they can get VERY bad.
