Tuesday driving to work, just cruising to work in third gear minding my own business when all of a sudden the rpms fly up and i lose third, dont know what happened try to go into forth, fifth, drop to second nothing. still rolling at like 25mph i manage to pull off the road into a little dirt area. Clutch is gone and is not grabbing a single gear. Waited around for like 2 hrs, first hour spent trying to find a trailer or a way to get it home. Second hour sent waiting when i decided what the hell ill call a tow truck and just pay to get it home. $100 bucks later and a missed day of work since i couldnt make it in the car is home. leave it parked outside looks so sad just sitting there.

this is when it got picked up, tow truck people not to happy about having to lay down boards to get the car on the truck.

Fast forward to today jordan came and picked up the car. Motor and trans are getting pulled for new clutch, as well as timing belt, water pump, new gaskets, coolant flange, seals, motor mounts, ect...($1300 in parts) going to track down all leaks, since the engine is being pulled might as well go through and do everything.

the car leaving this morning...

You pulling the engine to check it out and work on it right? Normally you don't pull the engine for a clutch job.

Should be able to pull and change all seals and mounts with the engine in the car. That's a lot of unnecessary labor to pay for. As for the clutch going, only way I can see it failing instantly is if the rear main seal blew out and leaked oil onto the assembly. A clutch usually goes more gradually.

i can just about gurantee you the clutch is still good. definately something else, either the slave cylinder, clutch fork, or possibly transmission problem. and i am also curious as to why motor and trans will be pulled. that is a lot of unnecessary work to do a clutch and timing belt

hmm well my friend said the same ting happened to his, my clutch engaged about an inch from the very top and he told me that it would probably be going soon, then it did the other day. As for pulling the engine he said it will make everything 10x easier as well as trying to find leaks and replacing everything...

It is normal for the stock clutch to engage near the top on these cars and is not indicative of the health of the clutch. Pulling the motor does make the actual installation of a new clutch easier, but it is not worth the work involved in removing the motor to save some time on the clutch.

Just replace the clutch with the motor in place. You can still diagnose and fix leaks with the motor installed.

once the tranny is out of the car you have complete access to the rear pf the motor, theres only one seal back there. The fton comes off and you can access everything that way. Cant justify an engine pull for any of this.
