Default Best Engine Oil

Hello all... just bought a "2000 audi A4 b5 1.8 SE" with 68k on the clock.
Can anyone tell me what the best engine oil i need as i want to give
the car a good service, ive been told by the dealer to use 5w30 FS.
Now someone else has told me 10w40 SS because its an older engine.

Any help would be great thanks Loz.

I use the cheap stuff. Autozone 5W-30 and a small filter. No sludge issues thus far.

PS- Please search.

Normally I would tell you to search for the answer to this question because this topic has been beat to death. Unfortunately the way forum search works here, words like "best", "engine", and "oil" would either be too short or too common.

I use 0w-40, lots of people use 10w-30, 5w-30, etc. Shouldn't make a huge difference as long as you use full synthetic or a blend and change it every 5k miles. If you use dino oil, change every 3k

I always use a synthetic oil. 5w-40 is hard to find, so I'll use 5w-30 most of the time. Not too picky on brand, I'll usually get penzoil or mobile 1. Change every 5k miles
