Any body smoked out their taillights on a 96 A4? If anybody has, do you have any tips?

Best advice for doing it is to clean the lights really really well and wear latex gloves so you don't get skin oils on them, and spray several light coats until they reach the darkness that you want. Don't spray heavily because it'll bubble and run and look like hell.

Do it for sure, you can get precut film for your year car for like 18 bucks, and you have a choice of how dark you want it. It definitely looks good and you're not gonna possibly make them too dark with the films.

film looks like **** after a little while, but at least you can always remove it. i used VHT niteshades. just do even light coats until you get it the darkness you like.

Just don't do it too dark...smoked is good, blacked out, not so much.

This DIY is long. I sanded mine as in the DIY, got them good and scuffed up looking and then cleaned them really well. As has been said, do very light coats and be sure to use clear coat when you have your desired darkness. I don't recommend sanding after the clear coat.

New to the forum, Ill be getting my profile in check soon.

But for sure get your tails tinted, especially if you got a dark paint color.
I gotta go with kraut and chaos on this, do the spray. I tried out the precut films (35%), and it looks real good ( clean look, no bubbles ) for a couple days. Then is starts to peel back around the edges and stress points.
