Default blew the exhaust pipe off my turbo

so, i was foolin around today and i gunned it and i redlined the car and i head a loud bang and then it sounded like i had no exhaust. so i got out, popped the hood, and my turbo was glowing bright orange, haha. anywho, after it cooled down i saw that the exhaust pipe right in front of the catalytic converter popped out from right behind the turbo and the 3 bolts.

so basically, i wanted to know what damage could i do if i continued to drive it like this. im planning on sliding it back in as best i can tomorrow.

i tried searching to see if this happened to others but i came up short. is this common? should i tack weld it back on or can i just use a u bolt?

ill try to get pics up tomorrow as soon as its light

Sorry to hear, but it's not uncommon. Happend to me some time ago.
It's quite simpel to fix tough just remove the downpipe and the flange and weld them back together from the outside (originally welded from the inside).
Good luck!

Happened to me about two months ago. I ended up replacing the stock cat with a high flow cat from LaBree Motorsports.

Here's a write-up. http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng114.shtml

Plenty of people have had this happen to them, the weld on the stock cat just tends to crack over time because of the high EGT's and high back pressure in that area.

Search on Audizine and you will find plenty of threads.

There's a hanger type deal under the car right by the flex pipe. You'll probably have to unbolt that thing to get the cat into position.
