Default Brakes Spongy

A brake job was done on my 98 A4 2.8 before I bought it. The ABS module was also replaced. Though the brakes have been spongy the whole time I've owned it. I noticed the brake reservoir was cracked so I replaced that and bled the brakes. I tried to use the vag come to do the ABS bleed but all I kept getting was an error. Anyone know how I can get these brakes normal?

after replacing my rear calipers i bled full system about circulations , brakes worked but felt spongey for about a week , take it on a back road or indusrtial estate and take it upto 30mph and lock the brakes up a couple of times worked for me

I ended up selling the car before I figured out what actually was going on. Thanks for the response.
