Default Breather Filter Question

Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of getting a K&N drop in, but I've seen some pics of other B5 engine bays with a small, cone style, aux breather type filter, below the air-box slightly closer towards the firewall. I've searched my *** off and can't figure out what it is.

Can anyone enlighten me on this please?

Thanks

I believe the small filter is for the SAI pump.

Can you elaborate, and if so, is it something worth getting?

Thanks for the response BTW!

that smaller filter is for the sai pump inlet. plus, don't get a k&n filter. it wont do anything for you. stick with the stock filter.

I already ordered the drop in last night. I'm not necessarily trying to gain hp, I just wanted an air filter that I can (almost) never have to change. In the end, the cost is worth it.

So, back to the SAI pump: Is it worth putting an aftermarket filter on, or just leave it alone? My only performance plans for the car are the drop in filter and a clean stainless muffler, so....? (I will upgrade the rotors and pads too, but that's a moot point here).

there no reason to put a filter on the sai pipe if you are keeping the stock air box. it wont do anything.

as for the k&n filter, do not put any oil on it. they come oiled, but don't put any more on regardless of what the manufacturer says

Yeah, I've read about the oil issue; besides I've had K&Ns on everything I've owned and never re-oiled them anyway, so that's not a concern.

Thanks for the SAI advice!
