To buy or not to buy... An immaculate A4 but with 213k miles (as a first car :)
Yeah I noticed that seconds after posting my last post and edited it lol... And I'm glad you like it because assuming everything checks out and it looks and drives good I'm thinking I'm gonna get it...
Hahaha I was waiting for someone to notice that... Theres an installed radar detector, apparently it used to have laser too but the 2nd owner took the laser module for his next car or something... So yeah thats why thats there I think.
Whoa now that sounds a little ridiculous... I haven't heard of doing it that often for a V6... My father knows his sh*t when it comes to cars and he did the A4 2.8 at 120k and said that it was completely fine to go that long... Have they been known to occasionally actually fail on V6s under 100k!?
Heres my take, my C4 S6 has 209k miles, and runs just about flawlessly. But here is what you can expect from that high mileage A4.
-Head gaskets. This is just the time for them, you can be assured that they will pop, especially if you drive the car hard.
-Heater core. This is a big IF, if the person all their life used G12 and didn't let any horrible deposits build up, it may last a bit longer, but unlikely. The heater core job on that car I'd consider even worse than the head gaskets.
-Rust. You're going to have rust in a few spots that will make some maintenance annoying, things like popped hand brake lines and random long term part failures pop in for surprises.
Suspension / Drivetrain bushings - are pretty much are going to be all shot unless they've been replaced.
As a first car, you can be walking into a disaster, it depends if you can do some of the stuff yourself, or if you have deep enough pockets to keep up with the maintenance.

-I haven't heard of head gaskets going on A4s... I'm sure they do but aren't the odds of that happening like less than 1%
-Also aren't heater cores really uncommon too?
-As for rust yeah I know what you mean there I have seen my dad have to really hammer hard on rusted bolts...
-The control arms have been replaced, everyone with an A4 I think replaces them, and they are easy and cheap anyway... As for the shocks they don't fail all the time like control arms but I will bounce them to check...
I can't see the car being a disaster, and yes I'm going to do the work myself...
Oh and unrelated but I have a question: Do the timing belt tools for the 2.8L 12v work on the 2.8L 30v? The reason I ask is because my dad has the tools...
